New bassist Drew Hicks brings soul, attitude, and fabulous groove-ability to an already tight sound!

Since January 1, 2007, Drew Hicks has been adding the bottom end to that already fat Groove Hog sound… and doing it very well! Sometimes, it’s the “new blood” that makes such a difference in a band’s sound. That difference surely affects the players as well as the audience. As it affects the players, it has an over-all impact on the entire performance. Drew’s impact on the band’s sound and total energy level is a wonderful thing indeed! You'll have to experience it first hand to get the full effect!

Drew Hicks is one of those musician’s who just plain “gets it”! With great technique and musicianship to match, Drew’s innate sense of what the song needs, from the bass perspective, allows him to fulfill that need and make the song sound and feel great! Drew follows in the notably hard to fill shoes of previous Hog bass players Rob Maertz and John Laws and keeps the standard as high as ever. There’s no over estimating the importance of a solid bass player in keeping the music grounded, yet moving along. Drew Hicks keeps the “Groove” in “The Groove Hogs” and allows the band to continue delivering the sound and the attitude you’ve come to expect and crave.

With Drew’s entry into the band, the Hogs are hitting the rehearsals hard and heavy. You can expect to hear plenty of new music including both originals and cover tunes. The band members agree on the importance of bringing in new music as well as continuing to play the titles that have become their trademark tunes. It is a common occurrence for the band to learn that some audience members will have driven long distances to see a show, occasionally from neighboring states. The Hogs know of only one way to thank people for making a trip like that, and that is to make their trip worth it! Give the folks what they have traveled to see – a show full of great music, energy, attitude, and fun. Present them with new offerings but make sure they get their fill of the tunes they’ve already come to enjoy!!

He’s Back! Ron “Handbag” Hanson once again sings with the Hogs

In September of 2003, The Groove Hogs lead singer Ron “Handbag” Hanson announced to the band that he was “jumping ship”, hanging up his stage clothes, and moving back to dry land. For personal reasons, Ron felt it was necessary to change the focus of his attention towards other things. It was a sad day for the Groove Hogs and their fans when Ron performed in his last Groove Hog show in November of 2003.

Ron was replaced by Oklahoma-born Adam Enevoldsen. However, with the departure of Enevoldsen in September of 2006, Ron was ready to give singing another chance. What a great feeling it is to see the Hogs once again with Ron Hanson behind the microphone. Certainly Adam Enevoldsen did a fine job and his vocal ability was stellar, however Ron “Handbag” Hanson, possessing a very fine voice in his own rite, has 35 years of stage experience behind him. The excitement of the Groove Hog stage show just jumped up a notch or two, back to where it was before Ron left. Like slipping on a fine pair of gloves, Ron fit’s the Groove Hogs quite comfortably and promises to deliver his soul and his energy 110% for every show! They say you can never go home. Well, this time, they were wrong. Welcome home “Handbag”!
